It isn't unusual to experience some anxiety about entering counseling in a group setting. Why would I want to talk about my "stuff" in front of a bunch of strangers? That's easy. These folks are going through the same "stuff" you are! The first task of a group is to establish a safe environment and respect among members, allowing all to speak freely. Your therapist will help facilitate this environment. Usually within the first session or two, members are able to move past anxiety, proceeding to the business of personal growth, relational growth, and healing.
